Step 1. You must hold or have held a professional certificate from another state and have completed an out-of-state approved program. |
Step 2.
You must have two years of full-time, satisfactory teaching experience in the subject area in which you are seeking certification. This experience may be from any state, except Maryland. Two years of satisfactory, full-time teaching experience will exempt you from Maryland's testing requirements.
Step 3.
To request your initial Maryland certificate by mail, submit the following:
- Official transcript(s) in an unopened mailer for all course work taken (community college, baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, if applicable). Your transcript must show the degree and date of conferral. Student copies in an unopened mailer are also acceptable. (Do not have the college/university send transcripts directly to this office.);
- A photocopy of your out-of-state professional certificate. (May be current or expired.);
- An original Verification of Experience form. (We will mail you a form once we have received your cover letter.); and
- A cover letter with your name, complete mailing address, social security number, and the area of certification you are seeking. Day time telephone number and e-mail address are optional.
