Guidelines for State-Recommended Content-Area Specific Curricula

The evaluation process for identifying content-area specific curricula for 3, 4, and 5 year-olds was conducted in the content areas of reading/English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and the domain of personal and social development. For a listing, please see the Matrix of State-Recommended Content-Area Specific Curricula.

The state-recommended content- area curricular resources are intended to be used as supplemental resources and not to replace the implementation of a comprehensive curriculum as identified in the Matrix of State-Recommended Comprehensive Curricula. A nonpublic early childhood program that is using a comprehensive curriculum according to one of these options may also voluntarily choose to obtain a supplemental content-area specific curriculum. These nonpublic early childhood programs may wish to access state or federal funds through the Judith P. Hoyer Early Child Care and Education Enhancement Grants for Private Providers of Early Child Care and Education Services and the Child Care Quality Incentive Grants in order to obtain and implement the curriculum. To be considered for funding, they must choose a content-area specific curriculum from the state-recommended list or be using a curriculum that has been adopted by the local school system.

Purchasing Materials and Obtaining Professional Development
Information about purchasing a content-area specific curriculum, curriculum materials and professional development may be obtained by consulting the Matrix of State-Recommended Content-Area Specific Curricula.

Funding the Cost of Implementing a Content-Area Specific Curriculum
Costs for purchasing and implementing a state-recommended content-area specific curriculum for 3, 4, and 5 year-olds may be supported by grant funds and the outreach work of different civic organizations, such as the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club.
