MD Child Care Resource Network

The OCC Program Development Branch contracts with the Maryland Committee for Children, Inc., to operate and administer the statewide Maryland Child Care Resource and Referral Network. Under the contract, every community in Maryland is served by one of thirteen regional Child Care Resource Centers.

Counselors help parents locate and evaluate child care. Staff provides technical assistance and training for current and prospective child care providers and technical assistance is provided to employers who are concerned about their employees’ child care needs. Child Care Resource Centers also collect data which documents the child care needs of families and employers and highlights the distinct needs of different regions within the state.

In fiscal year 2001, Child Care Resource Center counselors responded to 44,136 calls from families seeking child care. This was an increase of 8,269 calls over the number received in 2000. The number of child care providers receiving training or technical assistance in 2001 was 18,152.
