Maryland Teacher Professional Development

"Teachers are at their best when they are actively engaged in high quality learning opportunities themselves. These new standards act as a blueprint for all of us to follow in supporting teacher learning to ensure they have the tools they need to help all of our students master challenging material."

Former State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick

Sign up now for Summer Online Professional Development Courses

Online courses can be a good solution for educators who:

·       Find it hard to participate in after-school and evening courses due to childcare arrangements, after-school activity responsibilities, and other "real life" factors

·       Prefer the convenience of learning at whatever hours their schedule permits

·       Prefer online learning to face-to-face learning environments

·       Have good time management skills and work well independently

Through the eLearning for Educators program, MSDE and Maryland Public Television are partnering to offer quality online courses to help educators meet their professional growth and certification needs. This semester's online courses provide a different and convenient path for teachers who want to deepen their content knowledge, pedagogical expertise, and technology integration skills. Many of the courses offered carry Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit; some carry an option for graduate credit.

To learn more about the courses offered this summer—and how to register for them--click on this linkSummer 2012 Online Course List (Updated May 14, 2012).

NOTE: If you are interested in teaching online but have never taken an online course, Mentoring Students in Online Courses (see page 6 in the attached list) is an excellent choice: you get a good picture of what online courses are like and how to succeed in them--AND, since it carries 2 credits, your successful completion of this course satisfies one of the requirements for enrolling in the Online Teaching in MD course.
