Maryland Principals' Academy

 Eligibility Requirements

  •  Nominated by the local superintendent
  •  Completed the first year as a principal but not more than five years
  •  Committed to completing the yearlong Academy experience
  •  Completion of the Academy project

Program Delivery Systems

  • Division for Leadership Development staff and trained veteran   principals deliver and design professional development sessions for building leadership skills
  • Current information from national, state, and local speakers and researchers who address specific ideas and strategies for increasing teacher and student learning
  • Networking opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues and
    experienced principals
  • Research-based materials and texts that stimulate thinking and guide discussion about continuous school improvement

  • A professional learning environment that promotes collegial 
    networking, knowledge building, and opportunities for collaboration
    and planning
  • A job-embedded professional opportunity that informs the
    participants about the leadership knowledge, skills, and dispositions
    that improve school performance
    and student achievement
  • Continuing Professional Development credit for those participants completing the three-day residential Academy and both follow-up sessions
