State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick will celebrate American Education Week 2008 with several special visits to schools throughout the state. This year’s theme, “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility,” spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from kindergarten through college.
“I am continuously impressed by the level of dedication to public education that is shown by teachers, principals, students, parents, volunteers, and community members throughout the state,” said Dr. Grasmick. “We can be proud that this strong commitment is the reason Maryland’s public school system receives national recognition from being ranked 3rd-best in the country to 2nd in the number of students who take and pass Advanced Placement (AP) exams.”
To kick-off American Education Week, Dr. Grasmick will address the Maryland PTA at its Annual Fall Conference on Friday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Frederick, Maryland (5400 Holiday Drive). In addition, Dr. Grasmick will visit the following schools:
