Partners Promoting State-Funded Early Literacy Program
BALTIMORE, MD (March 20, 2013)

On Thursday, March 21, 2013, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will join the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MDAAP) to promote the Reach Out and Read Program. The Programis recruiting pediatric practices to help promote early literacy by making books available and encouraging reading as a routine part of care.

State officials will join participating physicians to discuss benefits of the program, which is being funded by a grant from MSDE as part of the federal Race to the Top funding. March is National Reading Awareness Month.
