About Wolfe Street Academy

Wolfe Street Academy is a Baltimore City Public School System school, serving a diverse urban population. Wolfe Street Academy converted from traditional school status to charter school status in 2007.

Among the Achievements and Accomplishments identified by Wolfe Street Academy:

  • Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three consecutive years
  • Recognition for improvement in Stanford 10 scores
  • Sixth Place in the National Primary Chess Championship

Program Philosophy and Model:

  • Small school that nurtures the individual strengths and needs of each student
  • Cultivates a climate of acceptance and support among staff, students, families, and partners

Learning Environment:

  • Wolfe Street Academy follows an adaptive curriculum that allows teachers to adjust the pacing and instructional methods to meet individual student needs
  • Class sizes are small, which facilitates the customized learning approach
  • Acceptance and support among students and staff is the cornerstone of Wolfe Street Academy’s culture—both are modeled in day-to-day interactions and instructional approaches

Student Support Programs and Services:

  • Customized support is available to students requiring additional help as well as to those demonstrating readiness to advance to the next level
  • A full-time reading coach provides intensive on-site, on-demand professional development to teachers
  • Intensive reading intervention services are provided to students performing below-grade level

Partnerships

  • Wolfe Street Academy establishes the link between the student’s school community and the larger Baltimore community
  • A full-time community coordinator arranges regular experiences with local neighborhood associations, local YMCA, local museums, and businesses
