About Rosemont Elementary/Middle School

Rosemont Elementary/Middle School converted to charter school status in 2006 after Coppin State University successfully applied to Baltimore City Public School System to operate the school.

Program Philosophy and Model:

The focus of Rosemont is to empower, motivate and inspire students in an urban community to seek academic excellence and goal attainment through positive decision making, hard work, and character development.

Learning Environment:

  • Students are engaged in a rigorous data driven instructional program.
  • Technology is infused through all content areas with the use of mobile computer labs, smart boards, classroom data projectors, classroom computer stations, scanners, camcorders, poster maker die cutter and book binding machines.
  • Video conferencing equipment provides students with access to NASA Scientists.
  • A Weather Bug Station allows students to increase scientific and math skills using the weather station.
  • Rosemont is an active participant of the Maryland Cooperative Extension Garden Initiative.

Student Support Programs/Services:

  • Rosemont staffs a full time guidance counselor, school social worker, and part time psychologist.
  • Partnerships with surrounding fraternities and sororities provide opportunities for mentoring, tutoring, social, and emotional support to students facing overwhelming challenges.
  • Through Coppin State University, Rosemont has established a Family Literacy Program targeting families in which grandparents are primary caregivers of students.
  • The Family Literacy Program provides reading intervention and enrichment services to families who struggle with illiteracy.
  • A Holiday Food Basket program launched by staff and students provides food to less fortunate during the holiday season.

Partnerships:

  • Charter operator Coppin State University provides numerous resources to enhance Rosemont’s instructional program
  • Brown Memorial Church provides tutoring and interventions to students struggling in reading.
  • Baltimore Polytechnic Institute provides donations for homeless and underprivileged students.
  • National Aeronautics Space Association (NASA) provides hands on classroom teaching and sponsors instructional visits to NASA.
  • U. S Fish and Wildlife conducts staff development, assists with indoor and outdoor habitats and teaches students in the classroom and at the Patuxent Refuge Visitor Center.
  • Campaign For Our Children conducts teen development programs for female students and provides sponsorship for our annual “Father and Son Breakfast” and our “Mother and Daughter Luncheon”
