About Turning Point Academy Public Charter School
The Turning Point Academy opened as a charter school in 2006-2007. It made Adequate Yearly Progress in its first year of operation.
Program Philosophy and Model:
- Turning Point Academy embraces the Hyde Leadership School model, which uses a character-based curriculum that stresses a student-parent partnerships and family-school bonds.
- Turning Point Academy’s approach is focused on educating the whole child.
- Turning Point Academy aims to provide children with the educational structure and school culture they need to be academically successful and socially responsible.
- Turning Point Academy children are exposed to character education that encourages a healthy appreciation for individual potential while fostering a sense of duty to family, school and community.
Learning Environment:
- Turning Point Academy believes that character development is the key to helping each child discover their gifts and unique potential.
- Time is built into the schedule every day for students to reflect and act upon the school’s Five Words and Five Principles.

- Turning Point Academy aims to support every student in achieving his or her personal best fairly, honestly, and with compassion for the needs of others.
Student Support Programs and Services:
- Discovery Nights and Parent Weekends assist parents in learning the Character Curriculum.
- Multiple benchmark assessments are used to gauge each student’s entrance levels and inform the teacher’s instructional approach.
- Pullout services are provided to students performing below grade level.
- A voluntary after school program is available to students to receive additional support from their teacher
- Instructional technology aides in the delivery of instruction.
