2008 MSDE Annual Environmental Education Briefing

The 2008 MSDE Annual Environmental Education Briefing will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 9:00- 3:00 at the Patuxent River 4-H Center in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Up-to-date information will be provided about MSDE's Environmental Education program, including a featured presentation by Barbara Bice, MSDE’s State Facilities Branch Chief, who will speak about green building policies in school systems; MSDE’s work with the Department of Environment through the Governor’s Climate Change Commission; the Farm-to-School Initiative with the Department of Agriculture, and the Energy Conservation in Schools committee with the Maryland Energy Administration and public utilities. There will also be updates on the MAEOE conference and Green Schools, the Children in Nature Partnership, as well as the annual report from the Chesapeake Bay Trust. A portion of the afternoon will be spent meeting in regional groups to learn about each other’s EE goals and establish ways that your organizations can leverage talents and resources.

The briefing is also a time to share and to renew friendships among the many educators who are working toward a better environment in Maryland.

Morning coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch will be available from the Patuxent 4-H Center for $5.00 (sandwich, soup, salad) or you may bring your own lunch. Their food is yummy. You will pay for lunch at the meeting, but must preorder.

I hope you and your staff can join us. So that we can properly plan for food, please RSVP via email to Kathy Marzola (Kmarzola@msde.state.md.us).
