Achievement Initiative for Maryland's Minority Students (AIMMS)

Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools, appointed the Achievement Initiative for Maryland's Minority Students (AIMMS) Council and Steering Committee in 1999. The Council, which includes leaders from the civic, business, and education communities, serves in an advisory role. The Steering Committee, with members spanning elementary through higher education, provides assistance to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and local school systems as those agencies take steps necessary to eliminate achievement gaps. The Steering Committee also administers the work of the Education That Is Multicultural and Achievement Network on behalf of the State Superintendent. For more information, call Dr. Barbara Dezmon, Chair of the AIMMS Steering Committee, at 410-887-2446.
