Skills2Compete Maryland is part of a national effort to help individuals get the training they need for today’s economy. Governor O’Malley has embraced the project, and the Maryland State Department of Education is playing an important role.
Two MSDE divisions play a critical role in skills development.
The Division of Career and College Readiness (DCCR) provides leadership to promote quality career preparation and lifelong learning for Marylanders. The division’s responsibilities include leadership of Maryland’s programs of Career and Technology Education (CTE) that offer students the opportunity to not only prepare for college but to also earn industry certification while still in high school.
The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) assists individuals with disabilities with training and employment opportunities, as well as independent living services. The division also serves Maryland residents who file disability claims with the Social Security Administration.
