A Cum Laude graduate of Shippensburg University, Gwen Pangborn has taught fifth grade and currently teaches kindergarten at Smithsburg Elementary, a Blue Ribbon School. She was honored as the 2001 WalMart Teacher of the Year and received a Senate of Maryland Resolution. As a classroom demonstration teacher, she mentors new and veteran teachers in her classroom to observe the best practices in education, including differentiated instruction and classroom management. Mrs. Pangborn presents and facilitates staff development on math and science at the Washington County New Teacher Academy, served on a countywide Lesson Planning Committee, and piloted a science and social studies curriculum under consideration for county adoption. She is active in her school, serving eight years as a School Improvement Team member and Curriculum Committee member. She maintains a strong commitment to her church and community.
