About Us

The School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch

The School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch administer seven federal food and nutrition programs in Maryland.  The Branch works with the state’s 24 public school systems, nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions, child and adult day care centers, family child care homes, and other organizations across the state.  Program sponsors received $167 million in federal dollars and USDA donated foods in 2006 for providing meals that met federal nutrition requirements.  The branch conducts nutrition education and training as well.

Programs include:  Child and Adult Care Food Program, Food Distribution Program, National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program, and the Summer Food Service Program.  All programs are administered on a federal level by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Our Vision: To maximize the nutritional well-being of children and adults in Maryland.

Our Mission: Provide leadership for food and nutrition programs in Maryland and ensure programs meet or exceed federal standards.
