Eligible Centers

Licensed public, nonprofit, or for-profit child care centers are eligible to participate in the CACFP.  Child Care Centers in the State of Maryland must be licensed to participate in the CACFP.  Details on licensing can be found at the Office of Child Care.

For-profit centers can participate in the CACFP:

  • If at least 25 percent of their licensed capacity or enrollment receive Title XX benefit funds as Purchase of Care.
                             OR
  • If 25 percent of their licensed capacity or enrollment meet federal income guidelines for free and reduced-price meals.

Meals Eligible For Reimbursement

Meals served to children from birth through 12 years of age are eligible for reimbursement.  Child care centers may be approved to receive assistance for up to two meals and a snack per child, per day.  All participating child care centers must serve meals that meet USDA meal pattern requirements.

Benefits

In addition to providing sound nutrition to children from birth through the age of 12 at participating child care centers, benefits to an institution participating in the CACFP include:

  • Monthly Cash Reimbursement for Meals and Snacks Served (See Reimbursement Rates).
  • Assistance with Menu Planning
  • Nutrition Education
  • CACFP Funding makes it possible for centers to provide food of greater nutritional value to the children in their care.
