Maryland State Department of Education, After-School Snack Program

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides cash reimbursement for snacks served at eligible after-school programs. Reimbursement is available for snacks served after school, on holidays, and weekends during the school year. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is administered by the Maryland State Department of Education’s School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch.

The program is designed to give children a nutritional boost and draw them into supervised after-school activities that are safe, fun, and educational. Snacks served under the program must meet U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional requirements. Examples of acceptable snacks include yogurt and graham crackers; fresh fruit and soft pretzels; or peanut butter crackers and milk.
