School Breakfast

What is it?

The School Breakfast Program provides funding that makes it possible for schools to offer a nutritious breakfast to students each day. Schools receive federal funds for each breakfast served, provided that the meal meets established nutrition standards. The State of Maryland provides additional funds to schools for each meal served to children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

Who is eligible?

The program is open to all children up to the age of 21 who are enrolled in public and private nonprofit schools and residential child care institutions. School breakfasts are available in most public schools in Maryland. Parents may call their child's school for details. If school breakfast is not available, parents are encouraged to call or write the principal to express interest in the program.

How much does School Breakfast cost?

Students who are eligible based on family income may eat School Breakfast free of cost or at a reduced-price of no more than 30 cents. Other students pay the price set by the local school system.
