Governor's Academy for Algebra/Data Analysis - Apply NOW!
The Maryland State Department of Education is pleased to present the 2010-2011 Maryland Governor’s Academy for Algebra/Data Analysis (A/D). The Academy will focus on meeting the challenges of having all students pass the High School Assessment (HSA) in algebra/data analysis. Participants will study the Core Learning Goals (CLG) of algebra/data analysis, the pedagogy needed to teach the goals effectively, and the supporting technology.
All Maryland public school teachers of algebra/data analysis, as well as special education teachers, classroom resource teachers, teachers of English language learners, (ELLs), instructional assistants, and other teachers directly involved in the instruction of algebra/data analysis during the school year are invited to apply. Applications must be POSTMARKED by MARCH 1, 2010.

2010 Fellows Program at Society for Science & the Public
Society for Science & the Public (SSP), with generous support from Intel, is pleased to announce the 2nd year of its Fellows Program. The SSP Fellows Program provides funds and training to selected U.S. science and math teachers who serve under-resourced students, to enable interested and motivated students to perform high-quality independent scientific research.
Through a competitive selection process, the Program will provide teachers the financial and training resources necessary to support and inspire the success of their most enthusiastic science students. For information about the Fellows Program & eligibility requirements please visit the website.
The Maryland State Air Force Association is excited to begin the nomination process for the 2010 Air Force Association Teacher of the Year Program. As you know, the program honors teachers providing exceptional and innovative programs that focus on STEM. Teachers in K-12 are eligible for the award. Check the website for more details. Northrop Grumman Foundation's Earthwatch Educator Program Now Accepting Applications The Northrop Grumman Foundation partnered with Earthwatch Institute last year to develop two expeditions that provide educators with a hands-on professional development opportunity, which will ultimately impact students' math and science education and help create the next generation of environmental ambassadors. The STEM Equity Pipeline, funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, strives to build the capacity of the formal education community to implement research based approaches proven to increase the participation and completion of females, including those with disabilities, in STEM education.

"Bits and Bytes" - February 14-15, 2010
The purpose of this FREE event is to engage high school girls in the college atmosphere and expose them to the possibilities open to them in Engineering or IT majors in college. Along with in-depth exposure to life as a college student and UMBC as an institution, the students will participate in an Engineering or IT design competition (for prizes) and will interact with current college students involved in the CWIT Scholars Program, including staying overnight in a residence hall on campus and attending a college class with one of the CWIT students. 2010 Scholarship Application Form - The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) - Fort Detrick Post supports the mission by providing assistance to deserving students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, or related science, planning, and construction fields at local colleges and universities. Application, narrative, and official transcript must be mailed, to arrive no later than April 15, 2010.
FIRST Robotics: Maryland FIRST 2009-2010 Events - The best way to see FIRST teams in action is to come to an event. All FIRST events are free and open to the public. Here is the calendar for FIRST events in Maryland for the 2009-2010 season. These events cover all four levels of FIRST programs, ages 6-18.
The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. SEAP provides competitive research internships to approximately 250 high school students each year. Participating students spend eight weeks during the summer doing research at approximately 15 DoN laboratories. Apply online.
Saturday Morning Science at Towson University. These one hour programs are targeted for students in grades 3-8 and their families and are open to all. The programs are free and no registration is required. They are held in Smith Hall - Room 326 on the Towson University campus. Programs begin at 10:00 am and are repeated at 12:00 noon. State Superintendent of Schools and former Congresswoman Helen Bentley launched a new website highlighting career and technology opportunities at the Port of Baltimore. This website is designed to help high school students and their teachers look at the numerous technologies and career opportunities at the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore.
eCYBERMISSION is the Army's free virtual science fair for students in grades six through nine. This program encourages students to explore real-world applications of science, math and technology. Students on winning teams can win up to $8,000 each in U.S. EE Savings Bonds.
