School Improvement Grant 1003(g)

​School Improvement Grants (SIG), authorized under section 1003(g) of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965(ESEA). As amended by No Child Left Behind, are grants to state educational agencies (SEAs) that SEAs use to make competitive subgrants to local educational agencies (LEAs) that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds to provide adequate resources in order to raise substantially the achievement of students in their lowest-performing schools.

In Focus

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is pleased to announce the award of 2016-2017 Title I 1003(g) School Improvement Gant (SIG) to Baltimore City Public Schools. The purpose of the Title I 1003(g) School Improvement Grant is to provide funds to local educational agencies with identified schools that demonstrate the greatest need for such funds and the strongest commitment to ensuring that such funds are used to raise student achievement.

The following schools met the criteria and approval for this School Improvement Grant:
  • Academy for College and Career Exploration
  • Frederick Elementary
  • Harford Heights Elementary
  • James McHenry Elementary/Middle
  • Mary E. Rodman Elementary

These schools identified as SIG IV Cohort may receive funds for a maximum of five years to support and sustain the implementation of their school improvement plans to improve student performance.
