Maryland Council on Advancement of School–Based Health Centers

Effective October 1, 2015

House Bill (HB) 932, EducationChild Care Administration and Programs of the Office for Children, Youth, and Families and Maryland Family Support Centers Network – Transfer to State Department of Education, was passed by the 2005 Maryland General Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.

A provision of the law transferred the School-Based Health Center Initiative from the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth, and Families to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and further required MSDE to establish and staff the Maryland School-Based Health Center Policy Advisory Council.

HB 375, Health and Government Operations/Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs repealed Md. Education Code Ann. §7-4A-01 (2013) which established the Maryland School Based Health Center Policy Advising Health Centers and instead established the Maryland Council on Advancement of School-Based Health Centers.

The purpose of the council is to improve the health and educational outcomes of students who receive services from School-Based Health Centers by advancing the integration of School-Based Health Centers into the health care system at the State and local levels and the educational system at the state and local levels.
