Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I telework? Take claims to review outside the office?

Unfortunately, Social Security Administration (SSA) regulations do not allow for access to records in an unsecured environment. Therefore, DDS is not able to offer telework at this time.

Can I be on the Consultative Examination Panel and work at DDS?

Again, SSA will not allow doctors to do exams and reviews. Additionally, consultants can not work at DDS and SSA.

Can I flex my hours?

You have the flexibility of working with your supervisor to select a convenient work schedule between the hours of 7:30 AM and 6:30 PM. Once you and your supervisor have agreed on a schedule, you will be expected to be available to the disability examiners during those hours. With prior approval you may modify your schedule on occasion.

What training will I receive?

Our training department, in conjunction with our medical staff, will provide training on medical listings, programmatic and vocational issues and electronic forms completion, and other systems software.

Do I need malpractice insurance?

No, DDS consultants are protected under TORT Claims Act and are immune from liability as long as the employee is working within the scope of the environment.

Do I need to maintain my license if I am not doing clinical work for DDS?

Yes, the state requires physicians and psychologists to maintain their license for state positions.

Will I get any assistance to complete Continuing Education Credits?

The DDS supports professional and career development and offers many formal and informal opportunities. There is a process that allows for administrative leave or reimbursement for coursework after successful completion of the DDS training session.
