This office distributes federal funds, provides training and technical assistance, conducts administrative reviews to ensure agencies’ compliance, and provides overall management of child nutrition programs.
The Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs at the Maryland State Department of Education provides Marylanders with a variety of nutrition program options for infants, preschoolers, school-aged children and certain adult populations. The United State Department of Agirculture funded Nutrition Programs provide a critical safety net for millions of people in our State, in addition to meeting rigorous nutrition guidelines and standards. We encourage all families to participate either through school meals, afterschool and summer meals, or in a child and adult care community program. Participation in the Nutrition Programs support good health, development of life long healthy behaviors, promotion of academic achievement, nutrition education and promotion, and addresses food insecurity.
