Enrollment Requirements
A. Students shall enroll in a mathematics class in each year of high school.
Credit Requirements
B. a student who entered the 9th grade class in the 2020—2021 school year or earlier shall have earned a minimum of:
- three credits, including one with instruction in algebra aligned with the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment for algebra and one with instruction in geometry aligned with the content standards for geometry;
C. students entering the 9th grade class in the 2021—2022 school year shall have earned a minimum of :

four credits, including one with instruction in algebra aligned with the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment for algebra and one with instruction in geometry aligned with the content standards for geometry;
Notes:
- Maryland’s local education agencies may elect to add additional mathematics credit requirements. Refer to the
local education agencies website for additional information.
- To be considered for acceptance to a school in the
University System of Maryland (USM) students must have completed 4 years of mathematics, which must include Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Students who complete Algebra II before their senior year must complete a senior year mathematics course that is intensive in algebra and expands on algebra foundations developed during Algebra II.
