A Message from the State Superintendent of Schools

Welcome back to school Maryland students, families, educators and education community members! #MDReadytoLearn

As we begin the 2022-23 school year, emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and implement the Blueprint for Maryland's Future, this is a time of transformation as we officially usher in the Blueprint generation. We are changing Maryland education and seizing this moment to bring real, meaningful change. A return to normal is not good enough, especially for families who have been historically underserved.

While we address learning loss, accelerate academic achievement and support social-emotional health, our goal is to improve the educational experience - and we want you to tell us how. As we engage our communities, we are asking for your participation in the Maryland State Board of Education and MSDE's strategic plan. If you haven't taken the survey, please take it here.

Committed to positive student outcomes and delivering an equitable and excellent education, Maryland is investing millions of dollars into our early childhood system and local education agencies (LEAs) with our Maryland Rebuilds and Maryland Leads grant programs.

The recently released Maryland Rebuilds initiative is centered on six high-leverage strategies to expand, strengthen and stabilize the State's child care and early childhood education systems. While Maryland Leads, a program that earned the participation of all 24 LEAs, focuses on seven high-leverage strategies aimed at driving student outcomes, bolstering teacher pipelines, and supporting teacher and staff recruitment and retention. With the implementation of these strategies and the Blueprint for Maryland's Future guiding the school year, together we will define the future of Maryland education, and accelerate positive student outcomes for all students. We will get it right for all children - whatever it takes.

Thank you for your commitment to Maryland education and learning. Have a wonderful, safe and happy school year.

Mohammed Choudhury, State Superintendent of Schools
