What makes us unique?

We focus on the health of our students in the following three categories: academic/intellectual health, social/emotional health, and physical/nutritional health. The responsibility of all those connected with The Belair-Edison School—parents, teachers, administrators, board members—is to provide an effective learning environment in which our students can develop a strong sense of self, academic proficiency, and awareness of others.

By making the healthy, balanced lifestyle a core part of our mission, we recognize and celebrate the connection between being fit and healthy and being smart with a love of learning. It is our goal to prepare our students for the high school of their choice with these things in mind.

Named one of America’s Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation; Signature event each spring: The Afya Mile Run; Life Skills Program. Participate in the Baltimore CeaseFire movement, host community events, and work with Belair-Edison Community Association and Herring Run Park.

Mission and Vision:

Our mission is to teach Baltimore’s children to live healthy, balanced lives: intellectually, socially/emotionally, and physically.

At The Belair-Edison School, we believe that students need regular opportunities to think critically, be physically active, and interact constructively with peers to create and learn habits of mind and body that lead to their living healthy, balanced lives.

Principal's Message:

I am most proud of my school community when I join students and teachers in a restorative circle to solve problems and celebrate one another.

School Merger:

Afya Public Charter School merged with Brehms Lane Public Charter School in 2019 to become The Belair-Edison School, a dual-facility PreK-8 school in the Belair-Edison neighborhood. Middle school grades remain at the Brendan Campus (the former Afya PCS) and elementary grades remain at the Brehms Campus (the former Brehms Lane PCS).
