  • Elementary School Teacher or Program:  Tracey Gay, North Harford Elementary School (Harford  County)

  • Middle School Teacher or Program: Emily Shank, Pittsville Middle School and Bennett Middle School (Wicomico County)

  • High School Teacher or Program: Tim Rodman, Walter Johnson High School (Montgomery County)

  • Community Champion Award (Individual Educator): Karen Gibbs, The Gibbs Perspective (Baltimore County)

  • Outstanding Organization Award: We are CASA/Somos CASA (Baltimore City)

 

Video: Meet winners of the 2018 Financial Education and Capability Awards. This 5th annual celebration in Annapolis honors those who teach, volunteer, and administer Financial Education programs across Maryland.

The Financial Education and Capability Awards Program highlight the dedication and success of public school teachers and community champions. Recognition of public school teachers is tied to the Maryland State Curriculum for Personal Financial Literacy Education, which was created under the leadership of the Maryland State Department of Education and mandated for implementation in local school systems beginning in September of 2011. 

Awards are given in the following categories:

  • ​Elementary School Teacher or Program

  • Middle School Teacher or Program

  • High School Teacher or Program

  • Community Champion Award

  • Outstanding Organization Award

​Each award winner receives a certificate and $1,000 in cash. Private funds were raised through OneMain Financial and The Woodside Foundation to provide four $1,000 awards. The application for next year's award will be posted in December 2018.
